Two Ways to Build a Stone Patio

For a mortar-set patio we pour a reinforced concrete slab first, then set the stone in mortar and point the joints. For a dry-laid patio we build a compacted stone base and set the stone in screenings with tight joints.

Either way, we lay out the stone by hand before we set it so the pattern and the color mix look right across the whole patio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mortar-set or dry-laid?

Mortar-set stone on a concrete slab gives a tight, solid patio with clean joints. Dry-laid stone on a gravel base drains through the joints and costs less. We help you choose based on the site and the look you want.
